Centrus PSAP data is a boundary
database of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) that is well suited to
emergency dispatch situations. The highly accurate Primary PSAP boundaries are
based upon jurisdictional areas and telephone exchanges, and include water
bodies and unpopulated areas where emergencies can and do occur.
Detailed information about each PSAP includes the NENA ID, Agency, 10-digit
emergency phone number, and FIPS code.
A PSAP is a facility equipped and staffed to receive 9-1-1 calls. Primary PSAPs
receive calls directly. If the call is relayed or transferred, the next
receiving PSAP is designated a Secondary PSAP. Managed by the state government
system, PSAPs are typically located at the county or city level. There are
currently in excess of 5,400 PSAPs in the U.S.
Centrus PSAP data is designed for use with Centrus Spatial+ technology.
The Ten Digit Emergency Number is a number that
rings to the same console as does 9-1-1 (an alternate path into the system).
This does not mean that it is a 9-1-1 trunk line. Also some PSAP's now provide
separate 10-Digit emergency numbers for cellular callers. Those numbers may be a
different than the one provided in the PSAP List. Users are encouraged to verify
the correct number for their specific need.
