Centrus Volcanoes data is based on the data from the
Global Volcanism Program of the Smithsonian Institute. The Centrus Volcanoes
database includes over 250 Holocene volcanoes, which are those thought to have
been active within the last 10,000 years, in or near the United States.
Coverage includes the United States, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, West Indies,
Iceland, and the Atlantic.
This data is intended for geographic display and analysis at the national
level, and for large regional areas. The data should be displayed and analyzed
at scales appropriate for 1:2,000,000-scale data.
Centrus Volcanoes data enables determination of the nearest volcano using
Centrus Spatial+ Closest-site solutions.
